Day 51 - Airlie Beach to Hervey Bay
Another fairly long drive. Country looks drier (but is not really). When you see cuts in the ground the deep red colour of the earth shows. In several areas we saw huge ant hills poking up above the ground - must be really huge colonies. Had several rain squalls which were not so good because the passenger-side wiper broke yesterday. Will have to change cars again even though we like this Skoda Octavia.
Upgraded to a one-bedroom suite at the Mantra Hervey Bay AND IT CAME WITH LAUNDRY FACILITIES IN THE SUITE. Carolyn was delirious with joy and we did 2 loads and have lots of clean clothes for the rest of the trip - big psychological boost.
We are near the World Heritage Site of Fraser Island but we decided to make the stay here a relax break - Just getting worn out with the length of the trip and the heat does slow one down.
