In this region we were able to get delicious Tilamook Cheddar cheese.
We stayed in a delightful B&B in Astoria where we had local smoked salmon on bagels for breakfast. We then continued south along the cost towards Newsport. The day was overcast and windy and the ocean waves were impressive. The only disappointment was that Fort Clatsop, the reproduction of the locale where Lewis & Clark spent the winter of 1805, had burned to the ground earlier in the week -- a big blow to the bicentennial celebrations.
